Are Tim Burton's Batman films family movies? Of course they are! How better to introduce the younger generation to the World's Greatest Detective than with a harrowing, Gothic depiction of Gotham City? Come on, you aren't showing your kids Heath Ledger's Joker until they're at least tackling puberty so it's the best we've got.

In truth, there's actually quite a lot of grim deaths in the Burton/Schumacher era of cinematic Batman. Jack Nicholson's Joker and Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face fall to their respective ends, The Penguin dies of what's basically toxic shock and Nora Fries is polished off in cold blood (see what I did there?) but none more so than the man who knows no punctuation: Christopher Walken.

Max Shreck acts as both the primary, secondary and tertiary villain in 1992's Batman Returns as an energy tycoon who plots a campaign to replace the mayor of Gotham with the tragic Oswald Cobblepot to secure backing to build a power plant that will guarantee Shreck's domination of the city.

Such is life, Shreck's plan falls apart when Cobblepot turns on him and takes Shreck hostage. Batman does his best to confront the Penguin without killing (because this Bat has morals!) but Catwoman has other ideas and she electrocutes Shreck to the point he is a smouldering corpse.

If you've ever looked into electrocution as a means of dying, you know full well why this entry made the list...
