10 Surprisingly Grim Deaths In "Family" Movies
2. <span Style="font-size: 17.55px;">Belloq & The Nazis - </span>Raiders Of The Lost Ark
There is absolutely no question that the Indiana Jones films are family movies. None whatsoever... Apart from the heart eating stuff, the complex historical plot and those creepy aliens in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, maybe?
Either way, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a family film to many and it earns its place on this list thanks to the movie's final set piece that sees the Nazis seize the Ark of the Covenant and, foolishly, choose to open it releasing the 'Angels of Death' who go about their business pretty bloody quickly - a few bolts of energy and the entire squadron is down.
But this is about as tame as this scene gets as the three main villains: Belloq, Dietrich and Toht have far, far more disgusting fates. Dietrich's head shrivels like a crisp packet on a bonfire, Toht's skin melts right off his skull and Belloq's head explodes very, very graphically.
Remember this film was released in 1981 so we're not looking at super advanced CGI here, we're looking at nightmare inducing practical effects that may or may not haunt this contributor to the present day.
