10 Surprisingly Violent Deaths In Family Friendly Movies

3. Zara (Jurassic World)

Tarzan Clayton
Universal

Current BBFC Rating: 12 (12a in cinemas).

Cause of Death: Eaten whole by a Mosasaurus.

Jurassic World was your typical shiny summer blockbuster; it was a lot of fun, but was very little else outside of that. It had action and one-liners and cool dinos, and the killing was mostly offscreen, quick and clean.

That makes this single moment - a death that feels like it belongs in Piranha or Jaws feel incredibly jarring and surprisingly grisly.

After inattentive assistant Zara is reunited with Claire's two nephews, she's soon swept up by a Pterosaur, but instead of leaving it there, the film drags it out... and drags it out some more. She's basically tortured, tossed between the flying beasts like a bit of meat before being dropped in a pool of water.

After getting dunked a few times while being chewed on like a toy, she's finally killed, eaten whole by a giant Mosasaurus that dives up from beneath.

It's unusual for a supporting character to be given a death this detailed - not even the film's villain gets such treatment - and that made it all the more surprising.

We see her suffer for a shocking amount of time, and it felt overly violent, unnecessary, and gratuitous when compared to every other kill in the movie.
