10 Surprisingly Violent Deaths In Family Friendly Movies

2. Chrissie (Jaws)

Tarzan Clayton
Universal

Current BBFC Rating: 12a (A/PG in cinemas)

Cause Of Death: Eaten alive by shark.

Quite how Jaws got away with a PG rating in cinemas is anyone's guess, and exactly why the BBFC bumped it to a mere 12a - which is basically the same as a PG, given that young kids can watch the film if accompanied by an adult - is even more confusing.

Because, as many youngsters likely found out, the film doesn't exactly hold back during its kill scenes; they rival the scares found in most modern horror movies.

Case in point, the death of Chrissie, one of the first things the film shows us. She isn't quickly munched off camera by the great white; she's grabbed by the legs and dragged around like a ragdoll for a good chunk of time, her screams of pure agony heightening the terror factor to a ridiculous degree.

If we're honest, Jaws had a couple of moments that could've made the list - the bloody death of Quint, for example. But because Chrissie came first, hers was the biggest surprise, and it's astounding that such an upsetting moment made it into a movie with this broad a rating.
