4. Volcanoes - Volcano vs. Dante's Peak (1997)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqXmt4oaI0M Dante's Peak is, very simply, about a volcano that explodes in a small town, causing citizens to band together in order to survive. Volcano is a little more ridiculous, with a volcano forming underneath Los Angeles, which eventually explodes, spewing hot magma into the city streets. Again, emergency services and regular folk have to help each other to survive. What Came First: Dante's Peak was released almost three months ahead of Volcano. What Was Better: Neither film was particularly well received, though Volcano was marginally better accepted from critics, even if Dante's Peak was singled out for being the more scientifically accurate of the two. Dante also ended up taking home the bigger share of the box office, though neither was a runaway hit. It's mediocre up against slightly mess mediocre.
