10 Talented Actors Who Just Can't Seem To Make A Good Film
5. Mickey Rourke
No. Of "Rotten" Movies In Past 5 Years: 8 Mickey Rourke is a fine actor: there's proof of it across a number of good to great films made in the '80s (Angel Heart, Body Heat and Barfly, to name three), and even in more recent efforts such as The Wrestler, in which he gave what is arguably his best performance to date. Heck, he was even the best thing about The Expendables. The Wrestler was seen as something of a comeback vehicle in 2008, after Rourke's career went plainly off the rails in the '90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately, The Wrestler didn't inspire the career resurgence that everyone imagined it would. In fact, since then, Rourke has turned in some of the worst movies of his career - and that's saying something. If Mickey Rourke tries - like, really tries - then he's capable of really great work, but his agent needs a serious talking to because... well, the actor hasn't made anything worthwhile in over 5 years. Passion Play and Java Heart are two of the worst movies ever made, whilst 13, Immortals and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For are sucky, unfocused duds.
Sam Hill is an ardent cinephile and has been writing about film professionally since 2008. He harbours a particular fondness for western and sci-fi movies.
