2. Joel Schumacher
The Five Awful Movies: Phantom Of The Opera, The Number 23, Blood Creek, Twelve, Trespass Believe it or not, there was a time when Joel Schumacher was thought to be a director of actual talent:
The Lost Boys and
Falling Down are both fine movies, and have each amassed their own cult followings in recent years. Nowadays, though, Schumacher is just renowned for making the movie which marked the death of the Batman franchise at large,
Batman & Robin, a picture so bad that it's frequently voted as being the worst ever made. I'm being somewhat polite to Schumacher in suggesting he's only made five bad movies in a row, by the way. Try seven or eight. God only knows what Jim Carrey was thinking when he decided to reteam with Schumacher for
The Number 23, which is - without a doubt - the worst of all five movies you'll glimpse in the row above. They must've really had a good time together on
Batman Forever if they felt like another ill-judged team-up was warranted. As it stands, Schumacher continues to make the most dangerous kinds of movies for a director in dire straits - those which showcase absolutely none of his talents. "What talents?" one might say to that. To be truthful, I've forgotten.
