10 More Tear-Jerking Moments In Incredibly Macho Movies

2. The Boy - The Big Red One

The Movie: This film follows the 1st Infantry Division known as The Big Red One, led by Lee Marvin with support from Mark Hamill, all the way from North Africa through to Sicily, Omaha beach and the invasion of Germany during World war II. Directed by Sam Fuller, this is arguably one of the greatest war films ever made. Tear-Jerker Moment: During the squad's final mission, the liberation of the Falkenau concentration camp in Czechoslovakia, they witness first-hand the atrocities committed and struggle to find any survivors. The unnamed Sergeant played by Lee Marvin befriends a little Jewish boy he finds and carries him on his shoulders but the boy, malnourished and sick, slumps forward and dies on his shoulders. The Sergeant continues to carry the dead boy around unwilling to let him go for hours afterwards. The anguish portrayed by an actor who is usually the encapsulation of masculinity in such a tragic scene is enough to make anyone bawl their eyes out.
