10 More Tear-Jerking Moments In Incredibly Macho Movies

5. "This Is From... Mathilda..." - Leon

The Movie: Hitman Leon (Jean Reno) lives a solitary life until he takes in Natalie Portman's Mathilda after all her family are murdered by Gary Oldman's corrupt DEA agent. He teaches her how to kill and she teaches him how to live in Luc Besson's stylish thriller. Tear-Jerker Moment: That feeling of so near yet so far is a very tangible one for most people which makes it even harder to swallow when we see reclusive hitman Leon make an impossible escape from the entire NYPD only to be gunned down mere yards from a new life with his surrogate daughter Mathilda by villain Stansfield. The one saving grace is that he lives just long enough to give Stansfield a parting gift from Mathilda; a dozen active grenades which detonate and blow him into a million pieces. Fortunately for cinema goers the loud explosions mask the noise of grown men sobbing in their seats.
