10 More Tear-Jerking Moments In Incredibly Macho Movies

4. The Adagio Run - Platoon

The Movie: Oliver Stone's Oscar winning film charts the journey of Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) from innocent raw recruit to battle-scarred cynic and his relationship with two superior officers; Willem Dafoe's Sergeant Elias and Tom Berenger's Staff Sergeant Barnes who fight for his soul. Tear-Jerker Moment: Music in film has, arguably, never been used more effectively than Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings composition in Platoon. As Bravo Company are being evacuated and reeling from Staff Sergeant Barnes' lie that Elias was killed they see an injured but alive Elias rushing through the jungle being hunted down by the Vietcong. Cue Willem Dafoe's slow motion run, throwing his hands in the air and one of cinemas best ever death scenes, all to the tune of Adagio for (pulling on the heart) Strings.
