10 Terrible 2017 Films That Will Get Sequels Anyway
8. XXx: The Return Of Xander Cage
Vin Diesel made his XXx comeback last year in The Return Of Xander Cage, and the results were underwhelming, doing little besides raise further questions about the action star's leading man potential.
The threequel likely pleased fans of the previous two instalments on some level, but even the most ardent of them will admit it was a watered-down version of the original's formula, this time coming in a few gadgets and a compelling villain short of a successful James Bond knockoff.
The Return of Xander Cage wasn't a smash hit in its domestic market, making just $45 million in the US, but once the overseas box office receipts were tallied up, its worldwide haul was $346.1 million against a budget of $85 million.
Although the XXx brand was left clinging to relevance after this forgettable sequel, a fourth entry in the series sounds like it's on the cards. Director D.J. Caruso confirmed on Twitter that all of the cast are on board for another outing.
