10 Terrible CGI Horror Movie Moments You Can't Unsee

It is important to note that, like a lot of the entries on this list (Deep Blue Sea, Hallowen H20, and Blade II), Spawn was released at a time when CGI was still very much in its early days in the moviemaking industry - meaning a lot of creators were still figuring out exactly how to effectively use the tool.

While the attempts were admirable, there were a few times during Mark A.Z. DippĂ©'s horror/superhero film when the director and his special effects team weren't able to convincingly enhance certain characters via digital assistance.

Spawn's (Michael Jai White) cape often unrealistically moving around in the wind was just one of the examples of ambitious CGI falling flat on its face in the movie. Another more egregious one can be seen in the form of the hideous ruler of Hell himself, Malebolgia (voiced by Frank Welker).

The original plan was seemingly to use a seriously disturbing puppet when bringing this demonic entity into the fiery scenes. But in the end, the team felt CGI was the better way to go, and that's why viewers were forced to endure and never unsee that frizzy-haired cartoon menace who couldn't even move its mouth properly.

In a movie with magnificent make-up and practical effects work at times, it's sadly stuff like the digital devil that most people remember this flop for.
