Now, it must be said that a lot of the effects in 1999's first dive into the Deep Blue Sea were actually rather strong for the time.

The moment when Jim's (Stellan SkarsgÄrd) arm was bitten off by one of the super-smart sharks, for example, was achieved through some quite shocking and impressive practical effects work, with a giant animatronic fish being used on the day.

However, that still doesn't change the fact that this is also a film that contains its fair share of CGI moments that have aged quite horrifically over the last two decades. Perhaps the most infamous example of poor digital effects being used to bring these terrifying animals to the screen involved the legendary Samuel L. Jackson.

In the wake of giving one hell of a rousing speech, Jackson's Russell Franklin is gobbled up by one of the sharks in a surprising moment that also sadly drags the otherwise fun movie into deep, awful video game cutscene waters.

There's definitely enough gloriously petrifying shark antics here to satisfy those looking to watch some deadly predators devour some puny humans. However, the visual of the rubber-looking monster snatching a digital Jackson - who briefly resembles an animated doll - mid-monologue is still something that elicits more giggles than gasps, with that dreadful CGI ultimately ensuring this iconic scene was truly an unforgettable one... for a variety of reasons.
