10 Terrible Films From 2020 (That You Should Still Watch)

7. Dolittle

Fantasy Island
Universal

Directed and co-written by Stephen Gaghan, Dolittle hit our screens in February. While the initial trailers suggested that this film would whisk viewers on an epic cinematic adventure with a cast of adorable animal accomplices, the result was anything but.

Despite a phenomenally star-studded cast of characters - including Robert Downey Jr in the starring role - and raking in a sizeable $249.1 million, Dolittle was a financial failure for Universal that also failed to impress critics. Panned for its messy plot, juvenile humour, and a lifeless performance from Downey Jr, who speaks in perhaps the worst Welsh accent ever heard, this family film was far from being the awe-inspiring adventure the trailers would have us believe.

Make no mistake, seeing Robert Downey Jr pulling a set of bagpipes out of a flatulent dragon’s behind doesn’t make for good comedy, but we’d be lying if it we said we weren’t curious about seeing what that would look like. In fact, the entire film can be described as a puzzling curiosity of strange creative decisions.

Aside from the insanity of it all, there is some genuine fun to be had here too. Specifically from vivacious performances from Banderas and Sheen.
