10 Terrible Films From 2020 (That You Should Still Watch)

It wouldn’t be the start of a new year without a subpar horror film, and in 2020 that dishonour went to The Grudge.

Remakes of horror films generally don’t have a good track record, especially when that film is a reboot of a remake. However, having names like Sam Raimi (Evil Dead), Nicolas Persce (Piercing, The Eyes Of My Mother), and Lin Shaye (Insidious) attached to this project gave audiences some reassurance that this film could be good.

It was not.

Like the previous films, the latest addition to this franchise centres around a cursed home and the unfortunate residents who meet their grizzly fates at the hands of the vengeful spirits who inhabit said house. Panned for its incoherent, non-linear narrative and over-reliance on cheap jump scares, The Grudge cemented itself as another forgettable horror outing.

The film isn't all that bad, though. With a handful of some effective scares and plenty of stomach-churning gore, horror fans will still get a kick out of watching this film even it's nothing to sing home about.

A visceral arthouse filmmaker taking the lead on a conventional studio horror was never going to work well, but – on some level – it does.
