10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The X-Men Movies For Everyone
8. "Deadpool"
If there's one character that most devout Marvel fans would love to see portrayed well on film, it's the inimitable Deadpool. Wade Wilson, as he's also known, is a brilliant character. With a healing factor to rival Wolverine's, Wilson is plagued with aggressive cancer, but it is countered by his superpower and results in bodily deformity rather than any ongoing threat to his life. However, he remains extremely well-humoured and is a highly entertaining guy. His one-liners are legendary in the comic books and his ability to break the fourth wall and talk to the read offers a fun dynamic in addition to that. Imagine, then, the horror of the fans when the character was completely mutilated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The ideal man was cast to play Wilson in Ryan Reynolds - and the pre-transformation version of the character was acceptable and funny at times ("Great. Stuck in an elevator with five guys on a high-protein diet" etc), but what they did with him after that was sickening. Turning him in to a Frankenstein's monster of sorts, the guys behind Origins: Wolverine decided to grant him the powers of several other mutants - including Cyclops and Kestrel - and, even more horrifically, sew his mouth shut. Simply put, it wasn't Deadpool. It wasn't anything. It was just horrible.
