10 Terrible Mistakes That Almost Ruined The X-Men Movies For Everyone

7. Killing Off Big Characters Too Soon

Granted, this has all been undone after Days of Future Past effectively reset the entire X-Men movie timeline, but you have to wonder exactly what the guys behind the franchise were thinking after killing off the likes of Professor X, Jean Grey and Cyclops in the first three movies. Bearing in mind that the Last Stand (in which those three characters died) happened eight years before Days of Future Past, it's hard to believe that Fox knew there'd be a timeline reset that far in the future, so to have killed off three of the most important X-Men characters in history by that stage could have been franchise suicide. Where exactly did they think an X-Men franchise without the founder of the X-Men, the leader of the X-Men and the most powerful X-character was going to go? Although the continuity has been thrown through the mill and the majority of what went on in the earlier movies has been retconned, you can't help but think that resetting the timeline to a point at which these major characters are still alive is a good thing.
