10 Terrible Movies That Got ONE Thing Right

7. Punisher: War Zone - Taking The Punisher Back To His Roots

Until the MCU-connected Netflix series where Jon Bernthal owned the role, Marvel had a pretty poor track record of bringing Frank Castle to life. There was the abysmal Dolph Lundgren portrayal in 1989's The Punisher, followed by Thomas Jane's far better outing in 2004.

The last effort before the MCU series was 2008's Punisher War Zone, with Frank Castle being portrayed by Ray Stevenson. This iteration, while certainly not perfect (Roger Ebert called it 'disgusting), does one thing well - it makes The Punisher...well...The Punisher.

In War Zone, Frank is portrayed as the brutal, efficient killing machine he was shown to be in the MAX (for mature readers) imprint in Garth Ennis' run on the comic. We see his longtime nemesis Jigsaw created (after Frank throws him into a glass-crushing machine) and killed (after Frank impales him on a metal rod and throws him alive into a fire.)

The film is full of stylized violence and has a bloody body count in the dozens. While it's certainly not a good film, no matter how well-made it is, it is a very good Punisher film.

This is The Punisher's character done right.
