10 Terrible Movies That Wasted Amazing Casts
1. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
It must have been a childhood dream come true for any of the actors in George Lucas’s Star Wars prequel who had seen the originals (and let’s face it, who hasn’t?). Bolstered by it solid previous success and with fans of the franchise clamouring for more since its lasting outing in 1983 with Return of the Jedi, nothing could possibly go wrong. But it could. Oh, god it could.
Sadly for Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman and Co, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace turned out to be quite the damp squib.
Of course, even the very best of films would’ve found it difficult to live up to all the hype that surrounded the film before its release, but combined with a subpar script crammed with cringeworthy dialogue and irritating computer generated characters (f*ck you Jar Jar Binks and Boss Nass), it fell way short of expectations.
Nowadays with the new sequel trilogy around to deflect some of the flak, the Star Wars prequels almost seem a distant memory but there’s a part of the cinema-going community that will never forgive George Lucas and neither should his cast.
