10 Terrible Movies With Overlooked Positives

4. Oscar-Nominated Make-Up Effects - Norbit

norbitWhy It Sucked: Where to begin? Without question Eddie Murphy's low-point as an actor - for he not only plays a bespectacled nerd, but the morbidly obese mass you see above - Norbit was also singled out by critics for being misogynistic and making light of domestic abuse. The Overlooked Positive: As horribly as they're put to use, Norbit did at least boast some damn fine make-up effects. His turn as Rasputia is wholly convincing, more a testament to the visual trickery rather than Murphy's performance. In fact, so convincing were the effects that the film was incredibly nominated for a make-up Oscar, and given that the Academy usually snubs terrible films even if they have praise-worthy aspects, this one was so good they couldn't bring themselves to ignore it.
