3. Uwe Boll's "Funny Version" - House of the Dead
Why It Sucked: Another in a long line of crappy video game adaptations, Uwe Boll's take on Sega's classic light gun shooter is a cheesy, unintentionally hilarious mess from start to finish, and the movie that helped popularise him as a cult filmmaker.
The Overlooked Positive: To be fair, you have to actually have bought the movie on DVD to get anywhere with this one, but Uwe Boll's so-called "Funny Version" of the movie - a comment that couldn't have its tongue lodged any further in its cheek - which has the director chiming in on the film in both commentary form and by way of on-screen annotations, is an absolute laugh riot. Boll proves hilariously irreverent, lamenting the film's lack of sponsorship, even taking a call from Christian Slater at one point, and talking about the film's various topless female characters. It's baffling because it makes us question whether Boll is a flatout terrible filmmaker or some sort of troll. He freely takes his own film to task, and notes how stupid he thinks the actors are. It significantly improves the horrendous film, if only in a hilarious, self-deprecating way.
