Although the heroes in a half-shell are more renowned for their seminal eighties animated series than they are for their original Mirage comic, it's important to remember that they're a comic book property first and foremost.

And while their cinematic ventures have varied from being enjoyable to just plain weird, the Turtles have become something of a theatre staple these last few decades. 2007's animated film actually had a lot going for it, blending the tone of the original Eastman/Laird comic with all the other animated series that followed. While nothing came of that feature in the end, interest in the Turtles persisted into the new decade, forcing childhood bogeyman Michael Bay to invest heavily in a live-action reboot in the wake of his third Transformers film.

This new Turtles reboot, released in 2014, was pretty bad. The Turtles were ugly, production was blighted by rumours of heavy alterations to the original Turtles canon and the casting wasn't anything to get excited over. That said, the film did show signs of promise, particularly in its third act.

One scene in question, featuring the brothers four as they gear up to fight their way through an army of Foot Ninjas, is one of the most understated in the moments in the film, showing Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael busting some beats before the impending battle. It might only be brief, but here, more than elsewhere, are the Turtles given the opportunity to truly be themselves.
