10 Terrifying Animated Horror Movies
4. Mad God
This recently released stop-motion is from the mind of Phil
Tippet – whose work on Star Wars, Robocop and Dragonslayer has
displayed his animation talent for years. Finally getting the rightful
recognition he deserves with Mad God, Tippet weaves a visually stunning and
incredibly dark horror tale of mutants, witches and alchemists.
The surreal story follows The Assassin through a hellish underworld, which is an amazing dichotomy of beautiful animation and grim setting. Everything is gross and wet-looking and just does not look like a fun place to be, but this only adds to the film’s overall horror. Taking a bloodied leaf out of Evil Dead’s book, the creature design is nothing short of awesome, with disgusting heaving flesh and big bared teeth filling the screen.
Mad God is allegedly an allegory for just that, but even without such
meaty themes, the fleshy film is pretty divine. If a gross-out torture scene
with lots of nasty eye bits counts as such.
