10 Terrifying Basement Scenes In Horror Movies

Cabins usually don’t invoke immediate fear and despair in people, so long as there is WiFi and hot water. But for the teens of the stellar original Evil Dead movie, there were plenty of horrors to face.

In the cellar of their cabin, the five teens discover a creepy book called the Necronomicon. Naturally, they decided to read it aloud, releasing all sorts of demons and spirits that harass the teens in horrific ways.

During the battle against his possessed friends and girlfriend, the main character Ash runs out of shotgun shells and has to travel into the basement to find some more.

Inside the basement, Ash is harassed by the haunting voices of his dead friends, and blood rains down on him through burst pipes. The lightbulbs fill with blood, the projector turns on and slowly is covered in blood, and an old-time gramophone turns on playing creepy classical music.

Ash is screaming, running around completely covered in blood and scrambling to find ammo to defend himself. The scene is short but can be incredibly tense watching it the first time, and the sheer amount of blood pouring from the cellar is unnerving.
