10 Terrifying Basement Scenes In Horror Movies

6. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Evil Dead Remake
New Line Cinema

Nightmare on Elm Street was a film that gave people further reasons to avoid sleeping in the hellish form of the man known only as Freddy Krueger. This murdered school janitor developed a bloodlust for children and a whole gaggle of superpowers that made him a genre defining villain in the 1980s.

In the third entry in the Elm Street franchise, Freddy once again hunts down the hospitalized children of the people who killed him in their sleep.

One night, Freddy goes after the main character, Kristen, sending her into a basement where she meets a young girl on a tricycle. Suddenly a furnace appears, filled with bones of Freddy's victims. Kristen tries to save the girl by picking her up and running away from Freddy, who is always one step behind her.

She struggles to escape some sort of mud trap and winds up in a room with hanging bodies. The young girl in her arms turns into a skeleton and Kristen wakes up screaming. It is a terrifying scene for many, and excellently portrays what it feels like when you try running away from your nightmares.
