6. Amityville: The Awakening

Release date: 2015 Your scepticism is noted, and understood. The Amityville films didn't exactly start off on a high, and have only gone downhill from there, with a total of eleven films in the franchise so far, with a couple of similarly failed reboots thrown in for good measure. That and the fact that the €œtrue€ story of the haunted family home in New York has been widely discredited as absolute fiction hasn't been good for the old Amityville name. 2013's The Amityville Asylum was the last entry in the series, an extricable direct-to-video affair starring people with suspiciously barren IMDb entries that almost certainly passed you by. So then why exactly is an upcoming return to that most iconic and controversial of haunted houses of any interest? Well, because of the director. That's why. The source of optimism when it comes to Amityville: The Awakening (previously Amityville: The Lost Tapes) is Franck Khalfoun in the director's chair, previously best known for superior French horror P2 and last year's fantastic remake of Maniac, which cast Elijah Wood as the serial killer, filmed entirely from his perspective.
