10 TERRIFYING Horror Movie Moments You Don't Actually See

8. Flesh-Eating Scarab Beetles - The Mummy

Whilst The Mummy is all about swashbuckling family adventure for the most part, there's no denying there's a dark vein of horror running down the middle in something of a kid's introduction to all things spooky. And if anyone would disagree with that reading, then I simply point them to the scarab beetles.

There are plenty of moments we see the scarabs attack poor unfortunate souls in the movie, each time faced with swarms of black insects writhing across bodies and tearing them apart from inside out. Or just, you know, crawling under their skin for extra horrifying effect.

Beni's death - surrounded by thousands of the creatures as his torch dies out - perhaps lands the harshest however, despite us seeing none of the grisly details. Lost in the dark, trapped in a collapsing city, and set upon by an insurmountable, flesh-eating foe: not seeing this one only makes it that much more chilling.
