The very nature of The Mist fits this whole bill perfectly, delivering a wall of impenetrable, ethereal weather phenomena that traps an unprepared group of survivors in a supermarket. Whilst the mist itself isn't a threat, the things lurking inside it absolutely are, making mincemeat of anyone foolish enough to go wandering into the cloudbanks outside.

There are plenty of horrible deaths in The Mist that we don't actually get to see, and whilst poor store worker, Norm, getting snatched by the suckers of some massive, betentacled monster is pretty rough, it's seeing the remains of a brave volunteer later on that hits home.

Tying a rope around his waist and heading out into the mist, a biker attempts to collect a shotgun from in the carpark - only for the rope to disappear into the white gloom. By the time the supermarket dwellers get a handle on it again, it's covered in viscera, and attached only to one half of the fella that went out there.

Well, that's what you get for trying.
