10 TERRIFYING Horror Movie Moments You Don't Actually See
6. Alien Abduction - The Vast Of Night
A movie that's a love letter to the 50s as much as it is its science fiction roots, The Vast of Night is Amazon's take on the alien abduction story. Whilst it's a solid drama for most of its runtime, relying heavily on extended takes of dialogue over flashy set pieces, the ending sees actual alien spaceships appear in the sky and make themselves known in no uncertain terms.
The power this film has in its description more than its visuals, and seeing doesn't have to be believing when it comes to the scares. The best example of this comes from our two protagonists - two teenagers monitoring a signal that's come through a radio show - as they talk callers to the station that recount their paranormal experiences with aliens.
One such caller is Mabel, an old woman that tells tale of her son being taken years ago, and the strange phenomena that lead her to believe in extraterrestrial visitors.
When her account is reinforced by a recording of her words sending a couple into a trance later in the movie, the whole thing is ramped up to 11.
