5. Lambert - Alien
Playing all of its horror movie magic cards at precisely the right moment, there's good reason Alien is regarded as the classic it is today. And in amongst where expertly paced tension and gory moments of goop join together in perfect harmony, there lies one moment that's mercifully hidden with a discretion shot: Lambert's death.
Watching in frozen terror as Parker is savaged by the xenomorph, she's quickly set upon as the alien's next victim. Slowly wrapping its tail around her legs, we're subjected to a death denoted by sound only, with Ripely discovering Lambert's dangling, bloodied limbs in front of Parker's corpse as she reaches the scene of their deaths too late to save them.
It's a moment with implications muddy enough for fans to speculate all sorts of awful fates for Lambert. At the end of the day, however, the brilliant design of the movie means all we're left to go on is just one terrible scream.
