10 Terrifying Horror Movie Monsters With Very Little Screen Time
1. The Pale Man - Pan's Labyrinth
Not one single frame of The Pale Man's screen-time in Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth is wasted. When Ophelia enters his lair, she's horrified by the humanoid's chalk-white, flappy skin, eyeless face, and scrawny frame. She's noticeably irked by his eyeballs, which are presented on a silver platter.
Despite not acknowledging Ophelia at first, she immediately understands the threat The Pale Man poses. Gazing around, she sees paintings of the monstrous ghoul devouring kids. Noticing a pile in the corner filled with countless shoes, Ophelia realises The Pale Man's victims could number in the hundreds. Even though this hellish creature hasn't moved a muscle at this point, viewers are desperately trying not to wet themselves.
Just when it felt like the tension had peaked, The Pale Man wakes up. Sensing Ophelia's presence, the beast arises, placing his eyes in the palms of his hands. Although he walks slowly, the way he flails his contorted limbs around will make your spine tingle. Every time he lets out that child-like squeal, you want to cup your ears.
Even though Guillermo del Toro has devised many haunting monsters throughout his illustrious career, there's no question The Pale Man is his crowning achievement.
