4. The Ram-Man - Lamb

Lamb Ending
A24

In this Icelandic folktale, Maria and Ingvar discover one of their sheep has given birth to a lamb/human hybrid. Desperate for children, the couple adopt the newborn as their own, naming her Ada.

While caring for their "daughter," Maria and Ingvar suffer several hardships. Ingvar's brother sees the child as an abomination, and tries to kill her. When Ada is kidnapped by her mother, Maria is forced to slaughter the ewe.

While all this is going on, viewers can't help but wonder the true origins of the wee sheep. The circumstances of how Ada came to be are so cryptic, you safely assume it will be left unexplained.

As such, it totally throws you off when Ada's biological father, a ram-man, appears out of nowhere and shoots Ingvar with a rifle. While viewers are trying to process what just happened, the grunting beast takes his offspring by the hand and wanders into the wilderness.

What the hell is he? Is he a satyr? The devil himself? Nature incarnate? Does he represent karma, since Maria killed Ada's mother? Or is he just a weird ram-man... thing? His appearance may be short-lived, but it packs a palpable punch.
