10 Terrifying Horror Movie Villains Hiding In Plain Sight
5. Lone Crawler - The Descent
One of the best horror movies to grace cinema screens since the turn of the millennium, The Descent is the claustrophobic nightmare of Sarah and her pals as they get trapped in an unexplored cave system, discovering a pale, human-eating race of 'Crawlers' intent on making the spelunking group their next hearty meal. Whilst the creatures themselves aren't properly exposed until a pants-wetting jump scare with a night vision camera, there's a moment early on that indicates not everything is as it seems for our doomed explorers.
Juno lights flares to expose a massive cavern, with the women in awe at the beautiful underground construct they've come across. As they filter out to take in their surroundings, the camera switches to a wide shot - where another figure can be seen standing on the left hand side of the screen.
Whilst it seems to be another of the women in shadow, it soon crouches into a position with inhuman gait, clearly an unaccounted for outsider watching our group. It's especially easy to miss on initial viewings, but one that makes the scares all the more potent when you spot the uninvited watcher.
