10 Terrifying Horror Movies Inspired By H.P. Lovecraft

3. Re-Animator

From Beyond
Empire Pictures

Adapted from the short story “Herbert West: Re-Animator”, 1985’s horror comedy Re-Animator comes to us from From Beyond director Stuart Gordon, but rest assured that this one doesn’t take itself as seriously as that gruesome, slower-paced body horror.

Anchored by a hysterical turn from Jeffrey Combs as the title character, this bloody, fast-paced, and surprisingly hilarious (for an adaptation of such bleak and hopeless author’s work) horror comedy gives a fresh spin to the zombie subgenre.

The plot follows a demented scientist as he attempts to outdo his recently deceased partner whilst said recently deceased partner is not only revived as a sentient severed head, but manages to give the phrase “giving head” a whole new and hilariously grotesque meaning.
