10 Terrifying Horror Movies Set In A Prison
3. The Task (2011)
Many a horror director has based their efforts into the smaller-scale indie scene. The low budgets can be both a blessing and a curse, drastically affecting a genre entry's chance of success. Hailing from British director Alex Orwell, The Task uses a prison environment as the backdrop for its gruelling narrative.
Six innocent people are kidnapped and forced to partake in a sadistic game inside an abandoned prison. The game itself is a reality TV show broadcasted to those with truly twisted sensibilities. At different intervals, the victims are pressured into brutal tasks from being locked in a hole in the ground to inhaling deadly gas.
To spice up the proceedings for higher ratings, a deceitful warden and platoon of abused prisoners are also unleashed into the prison. The deceitful actions of both parties deliver most of the twists and turns throughout the narrative. It stacks the odds against our leading characters and makes the prospect of escape that much more elusive.
Like other entries on the list, The Task is much less prominent than other horror flicks. It's fairly predictable when you look into who lives and dies, but it also features many grisly moments across its fairly short running time. It's slimmed down premise makes for a decent scare factor.
