10 Terrifying Horror Movies Starring MCU Actors

7. Lupita Nyong'o - Us

Oculus movie
Universal

Seeing Jordan Peele go from the wacky comedy of Key & Peele to an established horror movie auteur was incredibly surprising, but welcome. His films bring a tonne of exciting dynamics to the genre and create an entirely new perspective that focusses on people of colour and addresses incredibly prevalent issues. Us was no exception, and seeing Black Panther's Nakia take on the leading role was the cherry on top of its brilliant sundae.

Us is a paranoid title that sees a contented family on a peaceful beach vacation haunted by doppelgangers and terrorised by a litany of strange coincidences. The title masterfully uses a past trauma from the leading character to ground the film in reality, and establish a compelling depth to its meaning and visual presentation.

There is a constant sense of incoming dread and peril that the movie handles to perfection, and seeing the gradual decline of this peaceful family is entirely horrifying. As everything builds to explaining what's truly going on, you are utterly engrossed and scared.

Lupita Nyong'o drops a mesmerising performance here and fully displays her intense levels of versatility. She makes her part sympathetic and gets a great chance to show her villainous side thanks to the character's twisted counterpart.
