10 Terrifying Horror Movies Where Nobody Dies

3. The Others

Alejandro Amenabar's gothic drama takes place during WWII, with an unsettled mother, Grace (Nicole Kidman), caring for her two children, Anne and Nicholas. Due to their hypersensitivity to light, the kids are placed in perpetual darkness. When Grace finds the curtains in the house have been opened or removed, she suspects there's a spiritual force taunting her.

In the third act, Grace confronts "the others" in the house, only to realise she and her kids have been the ghosts the whole time, and have been unintentionally haunting the family.

Despite the fact the main ensemble are dead, nobody dies in the film itself, since Grace, Anne, and Nicholas already met their maker before everything kicked off.

Because of this, the characters aren't in any true danger. (I mean, they can't die again, can they?) Nevertheless, The Others is a nail-biting experience, due to its palpable atmosphere, Kidman's towering performance, and the spine-tingling imagery (especially when Anne unknowingly possesses an elderly woman). The way every scene is layered in darkness allows the tension to remain permanently elevated.

Even though The Others is unfairly compared to The Sixth Sense due to its similar twist, it's an astounding film that doesn't get enough credit.
