10 Terrifying Horror Movies You’ve Probably Never Seen
6. Shrooms (2007)
Paddy Breathnach's Shrooms follows a group of American teens on their first trip to Ireland, where they hope to explore the wilderness away from home and get f**ked up on the best hallucinogens nature has to offer.
Unfortunately for them, there's also a nasty piece of local lore and a few dangerous mushrooms thrown into the mix, and before you know it everyone is having something of a really bad trip. Grim events unfold around them and hallucination and reality meld, while a sinister figure picks them off one-by-one.
The reason most contemporary audiences haven't seen Shrooms is thanks to its brief release and poor critical and commercial performance. Nevertheless, its sinister blend of cabin in the woods and folk horror stylings offer a lot in terms of genuine, hair-raising scares. Plus, there's a late-in-the-day twist that deserves airing even just to see how barmy it is. The movie is never going to be on anyone's top 100, but it's perfect for a dark evening in on your own.
