With the recent horror boom has come something of a re-evaluation of the 1980s. While at the time, censorship reigned and horror movies were banned left, right and centre, the decade has since come to be viewed as something of a golden era for the genre. As such, there is a smattering of new '80s-set horror movies every year, many of which manage to recapture the terror of an era that made up for in blood what it lacked in budget.

Bad Hair is one such flick, set in the late-'80s and centring around a killer weave. Literally.

Anna Bludso (Elle Lorraine), a dreadfully ambitious careerist, sources herself a sweet weave to help her blend in and succeed in the dog-eat-dog world of music television. Alas, the new hairpiece has other ideas, possessing poor Anna to do terrible things and feeding on the blood of their victims.

It may sound schlocky, but Bad Hair is frequently petrifying and has the hallmarks of a cult classic in the making. Once the spirit of the wig takes over, consuming and changing Anna's personality and appearance, director Justin Simien and his team are firing on all cylinders, blending old and new technology with staging and camerawork that bleed fear into every scene.
