5. Fight Club
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4YI0YtvKfQ This is a little bit of a cheat given that the crash doesn't actually happen and is just part of one of Jack's (Edward Norton) many riffs about life and his own personal philosophies. After engaging in a chit-chat with a fellow passenger about the disturbing safety recall standards of the car company he works for, Norton notes in perfectly dead-pan fashion how he's desperate for a mid-air colission; anything to wake him up from his soulless existence. The shot of Norton peering out into the abyss, as one terrified passenger clings to his seat while countless others are tossed into the night sky, is both hilarious and terrifying, as Norton, with0ut an ounce of fear in his face - more wonderment than anything - looks on, and then snaps out of his fantasy. Technically proficient as is any David Fincher film, this is a rare plane crash sequence that actually raises an unexpected chuckle.
