10 Theories How Wolverine Can Fit Into X-Men: Apocalypse

1. It's Enabling A Sly Remake Of Origins: Wolverine

If Bryan Singer's remarks that he'd like to do the Dark Phoenix Saga with Sophie Turner's Jean Grey are true, then in the next film he'll essentially be remaking The Last Stand as he originally wanted to do it before Superman waylaid him and Ratner tanked the X-Men story. With that revisionismin mind, it's entirely possible Apocalypse is similarly his attempt to redo Origins: Wolverine, the other movie that Days Of Future Past explicitly undid from continuity (X-Men, X-2 and The Wolverine were also dispensed, but their plots' statuses are a bit more vague).

So at Alkali Lake we won't just get to see Wolverine, but we'll see his creation in all its non-flashback glory. Just imagine it - halfway through Apocalypse we get a tight, pre-X-Men Wolverine story that provides a coherent origin and lays the groundwork for future adventures (primarily Wolverine 3). Wouldn't that be awesome?

Best of all, given Singer's penchant for canon rewrites (there's obviously Days Of Future Past and Dark Phoenix, but also Superman Returns, which ditched Superman III and The Quest For Peace) and allthe timeline allusions, this one's actually quite likely. Fingers crossed.
