10 Things About The DC Movie Universe That Make No Sense

8. Ben Affleck Stepping Down As Batman Director

Ben Affleck's decision to relinquish the director's chair on The Batman was a disappointing day for DC fans, since he's emerged as a talented filmmaker, but it wasn't all bad news as the project landed in the equally capable hands of Matt Reeves.

Nevertheless, there was something fishy about the situation, and that isn't a reference to the awkward banter Batfleck shares with Aquaman in the Justice League trailers.

Affleck's official reason for handing over the directorial baton was so he could focus on starring in the movie, with the A-lister claiming he wasn't confident in his ability to play a dual role on the project.

Here's what he told Variety...

“Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require."

Fair enough, Ben, but remember when you directed and starred in Argo and it turned out so well that you earned an Academy Award? It didn't go so badly when you did the same on The Town, either.

Affleck is more than capable of starring in and directing The Batman, which suggests there's more to the situation than meets the eye. Perhaps there's something in the persistent rumours linking him with the DC exit, and giving up the chair is merely a small part of his strategy to edge towards it gradually.
