6. Bill Paxton Claims To Have Improvised Much Of His Dialogue
Of all the Marines featuring in Aliens, Private Hudson - played by Bill Paxton - is perhaps the most memorable. Nervous and pessimistic, his rants are a welcome break from the cool, calm and collected dialogue coming from many of his colleagues. A friend of James Cameron, having met him on the set of a previous Roger Corman production, Paxton had previously worked with the director when he'd directed a music video for his band Martini Reach. Perhaps it was this familiarity with Hudson which allowed him some leeway with his dialogue. In interviews, Paxton has claimed that many of the lines he delivered in Aliens were in fact improvised. Without a doubt the most famous of these is the line "Game over, man! Game over!" It's certainly one of the most quoted lines from the movie. An interesting aside about the use of swearing in Aliens is that of the 25 instances of the word "f*ck" in the film, 18 of them were uttered by Hudson. How many of those were also improvised perhaps only Paxton will know.
