10 Things You Didn't Know About Ghostbusters

9. Dan Aykroyd€™s Grandfather Was The Original Ghostbuster

After writing the original first draft, it€™s safe to say that Dan Aykroyd was the driving force behind the film. After all, he did come up with the entire concept of the Ghostbusters. But did you know that he's a bit of a paranormal nut himself? As a bona fide spiritualist, Aykroyd has always been interested in the other side. But it was his grandfather who seemed to inspire the movie. Dan Aykroyd himself admits that his family were €œpart of a worldwide cultural and social phenomenon driven by a wish to make contact with spirits of the dead.€ Even his great-grandfather was a noted 19th century psychic investigator who regularly wrote to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. But it€™s his grandfather €“ Maurice Aykroyd €“ who put this into practice. According to Dan, his great grandfather was devoted to contacting spirits on the other side€ and as a telecommunications engineer, he even attempted to build a spirit radio which would presumably help him to speak with the dead. Let€™s just hope he never got slimed.
