6. John Belushi Should Have Been Peter Venkman

It€™s no secret that Bill Murray wasn't always destined to be a Ghostbuster. In fact, he was drafted in at the last minute after the untimely death of John Belushi €“ the man the role was actually written for. A friend of Dan Aykroyd, the pair had frequently appeared on Saturday Night Live€ and Belushi would have been the original Peter Venkman. In fact, the original line-up is rumoured to have consisted of Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi and Eddie Murphy. But it seems that last one might have been a bit of a stretch. " was never a consideration,€ said director, Ivan Reitman. €œ had this wonderful, likeable, kind of naïve quality, and I just cast him.€ But John Belushi wasn't the only cast member who was switched out. The inimitable John Candy was also supposed to star in the movie as Louis Tully €“ the man eventually played by Rick Moranis. But it seems he left the production with a case of sour grapes after many of his ideas for the character were ignored. For instance, he felt that Tully should speak with a German accent and own a pair of schnauzer dogs. But Reitman wasn't so sure. "I said, €˜I'm sorry, John€”maybe next time'.€ Thankfully, the role eventually went to Rick Moranis, who gave us the suitably snivelling Louis Tully that we all know and love. And the two enormous, terrifying dogs remained with Gozer...
