10 Things Every Harry Potter Fan Wishes Were In The Movies
1. Dumbledore's Backstory
One of the driving forces of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is Dumbledore's legacy after his murder. Stories start to come out about Dumbledore, some good and some bad, that cause a lot of people to question who he really was, including Harry. This isn't just a comment on their relationship, it's a product of an internal battle Harry is having with himself throughout the entire book about whether or not he really knows what he's doing.
Things are satisfyingly wrapped up when readers find out what really happened in Dumbledore's past. He wasn't always fighting for the good side. He was entranced by Gellert Grindelwald, and their thirst for power led them down a dark path. His father was sent to Azkaban after attacking three muggle boys, which many assumed to be an act of prejudice, but was really an act of vengeance after they tortured his daughter Ariana. His mother died when Ariana lost control of her powers. His sister died during a battle between Grindelwald, Albus, and Aberforth Dumbledore.
Dumbledore's past was dark and complex, which makes him such a great hero. The reason fans loved Dumbledore so much was because he wasn't the typical golden boy. He was someone who knew his flaws and fought through them for the greater good. But film Dumbledore is an archetype. His complexities are lost, and that means his character is lost.
