10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About The MCU

1. Zendaya Is Mary-Jane Watson

At the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, when Zendaya's character reels off the line "my friends call me MJ", scores of fans took this as a big reveal and assumed the movie was outing her as its very own Mary-Jane Watson.

The 21-year-old actress is in fact playing a character called Michelle, who at present, has nothing in common with Ms Watson beyond the same initials.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has stated in no uncertain terms that Michelle is not Mary-Jane. The MJ remark was merely a hat-tip to Spider-Man's previous adventures.

Giving Zendaya's character the MJ initials could foreshadow a future romantic relationship with Peter Parker. Then again, it might not.

There's also a possibility that Homecoming's follow-up or another future sequel will introduce an MCU version of Mary-Jane. There's no reason why she can't coexist with Michelle, because they're entirely different characters.
