Its all building up to this. It was hinted at when we caught a glimpse of the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor, but we knew for sure once the Mad Titan himself appeared in one of the most epic post-credits scenes of all time. After Lokis defeat, The Other (the guy Loki had been talking with) tells his master how the attack on Earth failed, and how to challenge them would be to court death. Thanos turns to him and smiles. Please! This is a guy whose whole life revolves around death. Hes up for the challenge. Although Thanos wont be the villain for Avengers 2 (that honor goes to Ultron), the MCU is slowly setting up his grand debut. His goal is likely the same as in the comics: to acquire the six Infinity Stones (Gems in the comics) and use them to dominate the universe. Each stone has its own characteristic: time, space, soul, power, reality and mind, and when combined with the Infinity Gauntlet, it gives the wearer nearly limitless power. It was revealed in Thor: The Dark World that the Tesseract and Aether are two of the Infinity Stones, and a third Infinity Stone will be revealed in Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos will also have a presence in the aforementioned film with the inclusion of his daughter Gamora and allies Ronan, Nebula and Korath. We dont know how events will lead to Thanos facing off against Marvels greatest heroes, but its safe to say that the conflict will be epic, and thats not an exaggeration.
