10 Things Fanboys Won't Accept About 2016 Movies
6. Batman Kills...And Definitely Shouldn't
Our new Batman is the best thing in this year's Batman V Superman and is undoubtedly the best thing currently in the DC cinematic universe, in no small part thanks to Ben Affleck doing such an incredible job behind the mask. For all BvS's short comings, a lot of the Batman elements are spot on. From the suit to the Dark Knight's relationship with Alfred, this is a relatively faithful adaptation of the character.
Sadly all of this is overshadowed by the fact that the well-known anti-killing Batman does enough murdering to fill a cemetery.
Director Zack Snyder has referred multiple times to the influence on this killer Batman from the pages of The Dark Knight Returns but here's the thing, Batman does not kill anyone in The Dark Knight Returns. Pretty big oversight there, Snyder. Though Bats may be a more violent version of the hero we know he never kills anyone, even using rubber bullets and internally discussing not crossing 'a line'. The comic even features the Joker mocking Batman in the finale for not being able to kill him, before ultimately killing himself.
Batman v Superman unequivocally shows Batman killing people, not even in an alluded to sort of way like the other movies - people straight up get exploded. He kills people, he blows them up, you see their blood stain the walls. Stop trying to give his killing any sort of story consistent reasoning, this is a director who misunderstood the work he was inspired by and that's that.
