Watching movies is probably my favorite past time and I generally love all kinds, regardless of genre or subject matter (as long as they're done well, anyway). However, Hollywood has increasingly forced itself into a myriad of bad habits, mostly because Hollywood is - before anything else - a business that relies mostly on proven formulas, profitable franchises and established conventions. Most of the entries on the list are byproducts of this approach and while I understand why they happen, it still doesn't change the fact that it has a marked effect on the quality of movies that are released. If Hollywood would just follow the 10 suggestions on this list, mainstream movies would become a lot more original and satisfying...
10. Recycling The Same Plot Points

Hollywood must be big on saving the environment because they regularly recycle, and in particular they reuse plot points all the time. Take one example from three of the most popular blockbusters in recent years: The Avengers, The Dark Knight and Skyfall. Each of those three movies shares one key plot point that involves the villain (the Joker in the Dark Knight, Loki in the Avengers, and Silva in Skyfall) letting themselves be captured by the good guys only to escape and wreak more havoc. To the best of my memory, The Dark Knight was the first one to utilize this particular point, as well as the only one that sort of makes sense, but still required a little too much suspension of disbelief. In the case of the Avengers and Skyfall, it accomplished absolutely nothing for the villain. Also of note is the "expert" in every supernatural horror movie who turns out to be useless but the list of other plot points is nearly endless and increasingly annoying.
